Marco Tikkanen (born 1969) is a guitar player and a sales and technology professional. He has spent 15 years in the IT/Software industry in various management positions and is also an entrepreneur. He started his first company in Nice, South of France back in 1994 and has been a shareholder and owner of 3 other companies since.
In the music field, he has been playing in a few metal bands in the 80’s, mainly as a lead/rhythm guitarist back...in the days when bands such as Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax were setting their mark in the US and Europe. In the 90’s, he focused more on his IT career working for early start-ups such as White Pine Software (CU-SeeMe videoconferencing) and a leading player in the financial industry and also followed some Blues Masterclasses, merely playing for his own enjoyment.
In 2001, he founded London-based publishing company Rock Hard Publishing together with Herman Rarebell (legendary drummer of the Scorpions), Andy McCoy (Hanoi Rocks), and Alex Colin-Tocquaine (Agressor).
However, that company was short-lived as the events of 9/11 put an end to start-up companies funding for quite a while. The company’s goal (in addition to publishing) was also to build a full digital music download platform for new, unsigned artists...way ahead of time, before iTunes and other download services.
Nevertheless, he contributed to the come-back of Hanoi Rocks at the Midem 2001 in Cannes (where Hanoi Rocks played a showcase gig) and also worked with Herman Rarebell on his Art Meets Music project.
In 2003, he produced Moussa Kouyate’s album Finlandiafrica whereas Moussa Kouyaté came to Finland to record his album, which was subsequently highly acclaimed in his home country, Mali. According to news and hearsay from Bamako (Mali), the late African bluesman, Ali Farka Touré and Toumani Diabaté were inspired by Finlandiafrica to produce their own album, which in turn, won a Grammy Award in the USA in 2005, shortly before Ali Farka died from cancer. He also played the improvised guitar parts on the track “Kora Blues”.
Between 2004-2006, he worked for various IT/software companies in Finland and focused on composing his own music under the project name Crystal Planet (Electronica-Rock), which is still in the works and which he hopes to finish at some point in time.
In 2006, he suffered a major burnout and retired in the Finnish forests to recover and compose some new tracks and writing lyrics mainly as therapy.
Planning to return to the South of France in 2009, unfortunately put an end to his return and his technology consulting firm in Monaco with the death of his long-time friend and business partner who died from brain cancer. Nevertheless, he is returning to the South of France where he has lived for 26 years in 2010 to work with FM MANAGEMENT on discovering new talent.
His main interests musically are Blues/Blues-Rock, Fusion -when it comes to guitar playing- but he is interested in all genres be it Pop, Rock, Metal, Electronica, World Music, etc. as long as it’s bloody good!
He also has a significant network in the music industry which is definitely a plus for the artists under FM MANAGEMENT.
